This program represents the third step in our teaching progression, which works towards honing advanced movement and positioning while expediting a goaltender's physiological and psychological development. Goaltenders are expected to have outstanding technical skill and be in superior athletic condition prior to attending this program. Participants must be at least 13 years of age to attend (unless awarded a bye position).
ON-ICE PROGRAM [Back to top]
On-ice, athletes will embark on a detailed analysis of shot preparation and positional play to see how these can be properly integrated into their personal style of goaltending. Offensive and defensive strategies will be reviewed to determine how to play a greater role in team transition and handle different offensive team tactics. Finally, this program will interface with the participant's physical and mental preparation for the upcoming training camp and season.
In the HP program, the number of ice sessions jumps to three from two. The third ice session is dedicated to confined-space power skating. The position-specific nature of this edge work will hone the goalie's ability to achieve positional targets. The use of a third session also opens up additional technical teaching time over the two primary ice sessions.
OFF-ICE PROGRAM [Back to top]
On the first day, participants will undergo a series of fitness tests aimed at identifying specific physiological needs. Participants will then undergo a challenging week of training. Both theoretical and practical knowledge will be presented to ensure that the athletes understand why and how to advance their physiology. This will provide a blueprint and action plan for achieving the physiological necessities to play at the highest levels. During the course of the week a host of team building exercises will allow each athlete to strive for a personal best with the support and encouragement of their peers.
