Stand Alone

Ellis, Julien

 BIO
Was selected by Vancouver in round 6 (#189 overall) in the 2004 NHL entry draft. He was assigned to the Salmon Kings by the Moose while under contract with the Canucks on Oct 31, 2006. He played two games with Manitoba and made 55 saves and earned a 0.846 save percentage. Ellis spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Shawinigan Cataractes and tallied 88 wins, eight shut outs, and an overall goals against average of 2.85, in 173 games. In 2004-05 alone, he posted a 27-21-11 record, four shut outs, and a 0.921 save percentage. Analysis: Critics are divided on Ellis. He's a butterfly goalie, and like most goaltenders from the Q, he has shaped his game to resemble that of Patrick Roy. His legs are very quick, both when coming out to play the puck and collapsing to take away the five-hole. A stand-out in the QMJHL, he needs to prove himself at the AHL level. He was outstanding at the ECHL level last season and needs to continue rising up the goalie ladder and secure a spot on the Moose if he wants to be an NHLer.
