David made his National Hockey League debut on October 6, 2005, at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Playing against fellow rookie Jason LaBarbera, David was solid in a 3-2 defeat, stopping twenty-five shots. Luc Robitaille, Alexander Frolov, and Pavol Demitra were the goal-scorers for the Kings, who had to hold on as a furious Phoenix rally fell just short.
David had to work some overtime to earn his first National Hockey League victory. On October 25, 2005, in his fourth career start, David and the Phoenix Coyotes found themselves trailing the St. Louis Blues by a 4-3 score midway through the third period. However, Ladislav Nagy tied the game and Petr Nedved won it less than two minutes into the overtime session, raising LeNeveu's career mark to 1-3-1. LeNeveu made twenty-four saves for Phoenix.
