Barry's National Hockey League debut came on Thursday, November 30, 2006, at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Los Angeles starter Dan Cloutier allowed three goals on the first five Phoenix shots, forcing Kings coach Mark Crawford to insert Brust. Brust picked up the loss after allowing four goals on 28 shots in a 7-4 defeat.
Barry earned his first National Hockey League win at the HP Pavilion in San Jose on December 14, 2006. Stopping 34 of 36 shots, Brust led the Los Angeles Kings to a 4-2 divisional victory over the Sharks. Interestingly enough, Brust wasn't even supposed to play in the game, but got the call when a shot hit starter Dan Cloutier in the arm during pregame warmups.
