One of six (6) goaltenders under 18 years of age in Canada selected by Hockey Canada for is first ever Program of Excellence Goaltender Camp June 8-11, 2006 in Calgary to help identify players who will be selected to represent Canada in the World Under-18 Junior World Cup to be held in Slovakia and the Czech Republic August 8-12. The tournament features teams from Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. Canada has won gold in 11 of the past 12 international summer Under-18 events…Kurtis was one of 4 goalies, and 44 players overall, selected to Team Canada’s National Under-18 Team selection camp held in Calgary, Alberta July 28-August 2, 2006 to choose the 22 players who represent Canada in the Junior World Cup…Kurtis started 2006-07 playing in 16 of the first 18 games of the season and starting 15 of them. Playing behind a rebuilding team that at times has been defensively challenged, Kurtis had his ups and downs in the early stages of his draft season. His best games included a 34-save performance to beat Kamloops, 3-2, in a shoot out on October 1, 2006 in Memorial Coliseum. Mucha also stopped 10 of 12 shots in the longest shootout in WHL history. He also stopped 35 shots in a 3-2 overtime win over Settle in Memorial Coliseum on November 3, 2006, a game that his team was outshot 37-22.
