Chiefs goaltender Dustin Tokarski was named the Memorial Cup MVP after going 4-0 with a 1.72 GAA, a .953 save percentage and a 52 save performance in the Championship game against the Kitchener Rangers. Tokarski was also named the Western Conference Championship series MVP with four wins, two shutouts, a 1.21 GAA and .953 save percentage in a seven game series with the Tri-City Americans. Through games five and six of the second round versus Vancouver and one and two against Tri-City Tokarski had a stretch of 186 minutes and 15 seconds without allowing a goal. The stretch broke the previous franchise record of 180:54 set in 1995-96 by David Lemanowicz during the regular season. Tokarski’s mark is fifth all-time in WHL playoff history. The Tampa Bay Lightning selected Tokarski in the fifth round in 2008. Tokarski also participated in Team Canada’s Junior Evaluation camp in August, 2008. In 2007-08, the 19-year-old set a slew of records in net for Spokane, including most shutouts in a season (6), most consecutive wins (11-October 13th through December 2nd), best goals against average in a single season (2.05) and best save percentage (.922). Tokarski finished third in the WHL in GAA and first overall in save percentage. In his rookie season of 2006-07, Tokarski played 30 games, recorded a 2.79 GAA, a .903 save percentage and won 13 games. Tokarski also played six post-season games. His first career win came on October 6th, 2006, a 2-1 shootout effort at Everett. His 2.79 GAA was the lowest for any first year goaltender in the WHL. Both of his shutouts came against Portland (6-0, Dec. 9. 3-0, Feb. 24). Tokarski led the Prince Albert Mintos to the Canadian Midget National Championship in 2006 with a 1.98 GAA and three shutouts. Tokarski was added to the Chiefs list in December, 2005. Tokarski’s 43 career wins are eighth in franchise history and 4,217 minutes played are ninth.
