2007-08: While winning three of his six starts as a junior last season, O’Connell recorded his third career shutout in a 1-0 victory at Alaska Anchorage in late November...his other two victories came on home ice, at the expense of Bemidji State (5-4) in mid-January and archrival Denver (3-1) in early March as the Tigers completed a weekend sweep of DU... posted a career-best saves percentage of .897 for the campaign.
2006-07: O’Connell played in eight games overall his sophomore year, starting in five...backstopped a 5-0 victory over Merrimack, his second career shutout, at the Nye Frontier Classic in Anchorage, Alaska...also posted home-ice victories over Alabama-Huntsville (8-1) and Minnesota State (7-2)...one of 10 CC players named to the All-WCHA Academic Team.
2005-06: Made four starts his freshman season, posting a 2-1 record including a 5-0 shutout of Michigan Tech in which he made 19 saves...earlier was credited with his first career victory after playing the first two periods of a 6-3 triumph over Air Force early in the campaign.
HIGH SCHOOL/JUNIORS: O’Connell spent the 2004-05 season with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League, earning team Rookie of the Year honors after posting six shutouts en route to a 15-12-4 record, 2.53 goals-against average and .906 saves percentage for the regular season...also voted to the USHL All-Rookie Team...was named USHL Defensive Player of the Month in October...previously backstopped Service High School in Anchorage to consecutive state championships in 2002-03 and 2003-04, as well as winning a Midget AAA state title in ‘03-04.
